The Move

By

With all the miles we traveled last year and after spending the first part of the year in the Keys, Carolinas and Michigan, we decided to sell the house and travel the country. I believe this to be a true adventure, one that we will never regret.
The house sold so fast it was hard to absorb. The closing was based on us being able to move out. We are storing some of our furniture and the people that bought our house are taking some but we couldn’t donate any of it because it was old, used, to big or had dog hair on it. The charities seem to be getting very picky. Our money has dog hair on it too, guess they won’t want it either. Moving takes a little more time at our age and we have a few more changes to make on the trailer and to what we take with us since this is now our home. We had to get a virtual mail box and change our address with all pertinent businesses. We decided to forward our mail for six months to make sure all our bills were paid but after that all our junk mail would go to our old address or the post office would trash it. A gift to the new owners.
This is very overwhelming at times. So much to do, so much to think about and plan.
In addition to everything we are doing, I have to return to Indy for minor prostate surgery in November. Doc said to stick around for a week after the surgery before we head to Key Largo.
Wow today is my sister’s birthday. 84 and still very active. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAROL. We want to stay on her good side because she lives in a real nice house, in a good neighborhood and has a spare room.
Every day brings us closer. The movers come next week and then we have just a few boxes left to move, finish the trailer, close on the house and we are headed south for a couple weeks until I come back for pre surgery interview and then surgery. Our biggest worry now is if our storage locker will hold all our things.
We currently have the remnants of hurricane Helene going through the area. I hope we don’t have any wind damage. We are too close to closing to have any problems.
With the hurricane going through the south it is hard to finalize the details of the first parts of the journey. There’s a lot of flooding and power outages all through the southeast.
We are both feeling the stress. We have no help moving, the closing is getting close, we have to finish the updates in the trailer and start packing but not over packing. Then we want to stay in warmer weather but stay close to Avon for my surgery. Nothing to it. The one advantage to what we are doing is that we can add or subtract to what we have as we come back to Avon.
We got some work done on the trailer today and took some things over to store. We are waiting to hear from a resort near Savannah but I believe they are recovering from the hurricane. I would be surprised if they didn’t have a lot of flooding and power outages in the area.
Thanks to my sister Sue, I know what to do in bad weather. No worries.
We decided not to stay at the one RV park in Georgia. After looking at it, I couldn’t get the movie Deliverance out of my mind.
Talking about Deliverance, Carol and I were coming home from recycling today and there was an older man picking up sticks in his yard that were a result of the strong winds we had from the recent storm. He was facing away from us and bent over, his pants were at his knees and he had no underwear on. A full moon in the middle of the day when I was expecting a waning crescent moon that night. Life, you never know what to expect!

It’s interesting how plans seem to be working and then just fall apart or what I would really say is that “shit hits the fan”. We still had a lot to pack (I just don’t know where it all came from). The trailer isn’t getting finished, we have to change our address with a number of businesses, forward our mail, move everything to storage and make a number of reservations. With the surgery I have planned and since the hurricane has closed a number of places we wanted go, the stress builds. Then it all comes together. Not how we originally planned but it works and we are happy. We still have a couple weeks to plan between October twenty-fifth and November eleventh but we can relax now.
The mailing address change isn’t working as easy as I would like. We have to call the Social Security office and go to the license branch. I hope the banks and other financial instructions work out. Lastly we have to forward our mail.
The movers are coming today. That will help but I still feel the stress.
The move went well except for the problem the movers had with their lift. It quit working and we got a couple hours behind. I still got the lawn mowed and moved some boxes to storage.

No matter how much we do there is no end to the moving. I hope we never get in this position again. We own more than anyone needs and we don’t seem to appreciate it.
Not sure where we are going to start our adventure. Everything south and east was damaged by hurricane Helene and some of our reservations have been canceled, so we are going to look at some new places while not going to far until after my surgery.

They say that you can tell a person’s true character by how he acts under stress. If that is true then I failed. No matter how much I put in storage there seemed to be more in every room and closet. We shouldn’t have gone to Michigan this year. That really hurt. We had more than I could handle at my age. I am not sure our relationship will ever recover.

We are headed to Safe Harbor RV Park at Riverside Alabama. We will be there for one week and look for our next stop while we are there. We will probably go to Mobile AL or New Orleans LA.
I hope that Dan (our realtor) is enjoying his vacation. He is on a cruise in the Mediterranean. He has stayed in touch with us even though he is on vacation. Good guy!!
We seemed to have a lot left the day of closing. Storage, Goodwill, trash and cleanup. We worked until closing. We met the new owners at our house because we weren’t finished and went over a few things with them, then left to drop off the last load to be stored. The closing went well but the three of us were very tired and stressed. Yes Buddy has been stressed from everything going on.

We are currently at Love’s at Corbin KY. Long day, time to rest.

We literally threw things in the trailer just to leave. We can sort everything out at Safe Harbor. Our first stop. The truck bed is packed with bags of trash and I got rid of the heaviest bag at a Love’s earlier. Hope our name isn’t on anything.
Good Night!!
