The surgery and recovery went well on January twentieth. We stayed a couple extra days and on the twenty seventh I had a final checkup then we left Avon and drove directly to Mary Esther FL to pick up the trailer.
Being up for twenty hours we stopped on the way down and slept at Love’s. Only having a couple hundred miles left to drive and not being able to get on the storage lot before 9am, this was a good place to rest. Extremely tired, the rest did help. Since there was a Walmart on the way to the storage lot we picked up a few items to hold us over. Once we were at the trailer we moved everything out of the truck and Carol put everything away while I hooked up the trailer and checked everything out. With our reservations at Emerald Beach we couldn’t check in until 1pm.
The storage lot was about fifteen minutes from Emersld Beach so we were a couple hours early but our site was ready, so, no problem.
Our site was a pull through, with a great view of the ocean. We did a minimal setup, flushed out the water lines and got some sleep.
After some well deserved sleep Carol went to Walmart to restock everything we gave or threw away earlier.
Next stop, undecided

We are going to Yellow Jacket RV Resort in Old Town FL (312m) for a couple days to check out another place to layover. I drove the scenic route along the coast which has too many small towns and too much small town traffic. Find another route.
February 1st, 2025
Remotely located on the Suwannee River with a very relaxed setting this is a good place to spend some time enjoying the area. They have boat rentals and a church on site and the town of Suwannee is just down the road.
Call early, popular place.

Rivers End Campground & RV Resort, Tybee island, GA (276m).
A short ride, a quick setup and it’s time to tailgate. A complete setup takes about fourth five minutes not including the beer and the food I hide from Buddy in the bed of the truck.
We should have good weather all week. Temperatures in Savannah will span the seventies and evenings on Tybee island will be good campfire weather. Can’t get much better.
February 3rd, 2025
This was a good catch-up day. First things first, Carol baked scones. She said it would help keep the trailer warm. Buddy needed a bath, I had to refill an LP tank, Carol had laundry, I needed a shower and it is tax season.

Time to visit our forefathers and look at the history of our country.
We went to Colonial Park Cemetery in Savannah. Established in seventeen hundred and fifty and expanded three times to approximately six acres by seventeen hundred and eighty nine and closed to interment since eighteen hundred and fifty three. It is the oldest intact municipal cemetery in Savannah. This cemetery was open through the Revolutionary War and a Yellow Fever epidemic in eighteen hundred and twenty when nearly seven hundred died. Having gone through a number of name changes over the years and more ties to the history of our country, I will stop here and let you do the research. Very interesting area and we haven’t made it to the Civil War.

Historic Savannah, as charming as ever. With the lichen covered trees and the old world atmosphere created by the architecture and landscaping of times gone by on and around the waterfront, create a very relaxing atmosphere.

We didn’t do a lot of shopping. Carol was looking for a book “Midnight in the garden of good and evil” and we found it in a shop that the woman working there knew the people in the book. It was interesting listening to her talk about the different events. We did make a stop at the candy store to get some turtles and popcorn. That was our health food stop for the day. After spending an few hours walking the area we called it a day and headed to our trailer at Rivers End.

Being at the mouth of the Savannah river known as Tybee Roads we see the freighters going up river to the Port of Savannah. There has been a lot of sea fog at night causing mariners to activate sound signals (foghorns) at the lighthouse to help with navigation. At times we hear the freighters sounding their horns to warn other vessels of their presence as well.

Laurel Grove then Bonaventure cemetery
The history of our country is well depicted in our cemeteries showing disease, plague, war, postneonatal death, accidental and early deaths and few long lives. The love and respect they had for these people is displayed in the headstones and monuments they chose to honor them when affordable. These sculptures are true art and a skill that is buried with the past. It’s sad to watch them degrade along with the memories of the people they honor.

These cemeteries take up where Colonial Park Cemetery leaves off. The three of them showing the tenacity of the people building this country.

Time to get the truck and trailer cleaned up and start storing everything we have out. Yes we leave in the morning, headed for Outback Springs RV Resort, Bonifay FL then we will spend the night at Sun Outdoors New Orleans North Shore, New Orleans LA before we ended up in Galveston TX. We haven’t talked about Baton Rouge traffic yet so I am not sure what time we will go through there. We can talk about that as we travel, time to relax and get ready for the Super Bowl. This is our fourth month on the road and we are still talking to each other!
February 10th, 2025
We left Rivers End about 9am and seven and a half hours later we are at Outback Springs RV Resort, Bonifay FL (405m). We got in early enough to do some shopping at Piggly Wiggly grocery store in town. Just an overnight stop but this is a nice park, Quite full and the owner does have an Australian accent.
Well mates, G’night.

February 11th, 2025
Short day on the road, is was the windiest day we’ve had and the truck was hard to control on the causeways, it rained and there was still a layer of fog hovering over Mobile AL. Seems like a typical day for us any more.
We were in four states today. Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Sun Outdoors New Orleans North Shore (300m). The resort is designed for the whole family. Two pools, a lazy river, a small lake with a beach next to the pickleball courts, miniature golf course and more. Sounds like an ad, doesn’t it? There is also a snack bar, bar and lounge and we can’t forget the gift shop. If you aren’t an RVer they have cottages on the lake and very nice RV sites. Great park.

February 12th, 2025, 12am
Currently raining and will probably rain all night and most of our trip to Galveston. We are planning on leaving for Galveston at 3am so we can drive through Baton Rouge without any traffic then stopping at a rest area before going to the Bolivar ferry landing on the Bolivar Peninsula to take the ferry to Galveston.
We ended up driving through Baton Rouge and stopping for gas at Love’s so we parked and slept there for an hour plus.
FYI
When you get off the interstate in Texas, you could be put on a road that has two way traffic. So when you exit the interstate and G.P.S. tells you to stay left, be careful or you could be in the wrong lane on a road with two way traffic.
The wind wasn’t as bad as yesterday but would pick up later. There was a small craft warnings out with four to six foot waves and higher, later.
The ferry is at the entrance to Galveston bay which is sheltered from the Golf waters so we had a easy ride.

Stella Mare RV Resort (319, – 2.7 m ferry ride)
We have a great site at the resort. We are blocked from the road noise and the wind. Which is a good thing.
It’s amazing how quickly things change. When I decided to leave Savannah, Galveston was going to have weather in the sixtys and seventies with a couple cooler days. Now we have a chance for two days above the fifties and rain or wind on most days.
As Father Guido Sarducci would say “life is like a buffet. You can choose what you want but don’t complain if you don’t like what you get”.
We have two warm days to see the historic district, then we will tour some of the historic areas and tree sculptures. Since we can drive on the beach we can enjoy the rough water from the seclusion of our truck as we watch the waves roll in.
I enjoy the weather and wonder what it would be like on the open water in weather like this.
February 13th, 2025
I went to the hardware at Jamaica Beach yesterday and wanted to show Carol the area and take her to the beach.

There is also a Cantina in the area.

Woody’s beach bar across the road from us is a familiar place and a great place for a drink where you can relax and enjoy the gulf. Looks can be deceiving, in this case, they aren’t.
The wind is bad today, twenty mph+ and have been really rocking the trailer even though we are blocked from the wind by larger trailers.

The waves are high, six feet or more beyond the beach.

We have had a fair amount of rain the last few days but that is no excuse for the water leaks Carol found in the front of the trailer. Both outside storage access door frames leak from poor installation. The cheap foam seals leak. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do tomorrow, now I know.
February 14th, 2025
Happy Valentine day. Coffee with my girl.
Off to the hardware after we go shopping at Walmart.
The number of flu cases are up so we are isolating ourselves and wearing masks.
High fifties today, windy with a good chance of rain. I think I’ll buy what I need to repair the leaks today and try to get the windward side repaired before the rain. I am going to buy some duct tape to temporarily seal the door frame if needed.
What would we do without duct tape!
With this being Valentines day I wanted to have a special lunch with Carol, so we had one of our favorite meals. Pizza, gluten free. After lunch we exchanged cards, laughed and it was time to work on the trailer.
The way the foam seals to the frame and the trailer I decided to run a bead of silicone over the existing seal. I was able to reseal both access door frames and believe this will solve the problem.
The temperature is going to drop here the day we leave. San Antonio will have freezing temperatures so we are going to South Padre Island and work our way back when it warms up.
February 15th, 2025
We didn’t go to the Strand today, the area was very busy and we weren’t up to it. Stayed at the park and then went beach walking. The weather was great. Since we have been here I have noticed that people in this park are very unfriendly. They go out-of-their-way to avoid speaking to just saying HI. Doesn’t matter, we don’t go places for the RV parks except for one.
I hate to say this but I rolled the truck back into a car today in a McDonalds parking lot. No damage to their car so all is good but it shouldn’t have happened. The good thing is that I hit them with the right rear bumper on the truck. This is the same area I hit the tree root, in Savannah a week ago. The tree was where it should be but the roots were growing out from the curb into the street.
February 16, 2025
Truly amazing the path that life has taken us. I can’t imagine going through this with anyone but Carol or anyone staying by my side like she does.
I had been bleeding out my uretha, for a couple days and it was serious enough that I told Carol what was happening and here we are at John Sealy emergency room in Galveston TX. They put in a catheter and got the bleeding under control and let me go.
February 17, 2025
I called my doctors office and talked to the nurse monitoring my case and she suggested monitoring myself and in a few days removing the catheter.
So life continues.
February 19th, 2025
The wind is out of the NNW at twenty nine MPH going down to twenty five mph with gusts by noon tomorrow.
The wind is so bad that we are going to extend our stay until the twenty second to avoid the driving problems. The winds will be down to fifteen mph + gusts.
Reminds me of the song Rawhide.
Starting in January the trip has not gone well. All we are doing is trying to outrun the cold weather and we are losing.
I went to Jamaica Beach for some stress food, bought some at the grocery store and found myself calling Carol to let her know that I ordered a pizza and was going to the beach.
Pizza and beer and watching the waves roll in. Roughest water we have had. NOAA reports six to eleven foot waves and gale force winds.
Saturday we leave for San Antonio to warm weather I hope.
February 20th, 2025
Thirty one degrees and twenty mph winds with gusts, what a night. I bought a spare tank of LP last night so I wouldn’t have to worry about gas.
February 22nd, 2025
We had to extend our stay at Galveston and cancel our plans for South Padre Island because of weather. The winds were to strong to drive in.
San Antonio (247m), a short ride but with the previous events and little sleep an arduous journey. We stopped at a rest area so I could sleep for a while then finished the trip.
As a side note, Texas has poor roads. They all seem to be in bad condition and under construction. Be prepared for a rough ride.
Green Lake RV Resort seems to be more of a trailer park with a lot of full time residents and they feed the Geese. What a mess.
We are going to a couple cemeteries tomorrow and Tuesday will be a “repair the trailer day”. I have to finish cleaning up the putty on the left front trim and install new door seals on the outside storage doors.
February 24th, 2025
About 2am I started bleeding again and by 8am we were leaving for the hospital emergency room. Luckily there was a good hospital just five miles away. They weren’t sure what to do so they put in a catheter and the bleeding lightened up so they released me. We got home (trailer) about 1pm, I had some lunch and we were back at the emergency room by 3pm. I was transferred to the hospital and assigning a room.
February 25th, 2025
They worked on me on and off throughout the night and everything was cleared up by morning. After being examined by two doctors I was released again.
February 26th, 2025
I had some minor bleeding but we were able to get it under control. We are planning on staying here a few more days and then going back to Indy to recover for a while before we start out again.
February 27th, 2025
We have decided to stay here and recover. I added two weeks to our stay. After what I said about the RV park, I will add that this is a friendly, safe community.
Having time to think about our travels after my “procedure”, I believe that I caused all my problems. My idea of taking it easy and theirs are two different things. I have to learn how to do nothing. I have to ask Carol to do everything. Don’t care for it.
February 28th, 2025
Friday night, great weather, everyone is home, the park is lit up like Christmas, people talking, kids playing and music everywhere, Latin and rock. This is more like a community then an RV park.
March 4th, 2025
While we had a minor problem a couple days ago, everything is good now and I removed the catheter this morning. Things are looking better.
We bought a new griddle/grill that is a lot lighter and seems to work well. So I have to go and start lunch.
March 9th, 2025
This is our fifth month on the road and I am surprised we are still here with everything we have gone through.
March 12th, 2025
More of our countries early history!
The Alamo

From Spanish mission to fortress the iconic church still stands as a reminder of our countries beginning. Around two hundred Texans held off fifteen hundred Mexican soldiers for thirteen days before being overtaken. Once again showing the tenacity and resilience of the people that formed this country.

You can’t go to San Antonio without spending time on the San Antonio river enjoying the shops and restaurants along the banks. Also known as River walk, this is a great place to spend a few hours.

March 14th, 2025,1am CST
There is a total lunar eclipse tonight creating what they call a blood moon caused by the lack of light on the moon surface during the eclipse.

March 14th, 2025
With the temperatures in the middle to high nineties I think it’s time to leave the area. Our Jayco trailer isn’t insulated well enough to endure the heat. The air-conditioned runs nonstop. We are planning on going to Northern New Mexico.
We have a couple more things to do here before we leave but I would like to leave earlier than expected.
March 15th, 2025
We visited a Confederate Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. There are more than 900 graves of confederate soldiers in this cemetery. All the graves we saw were soldiers that died after the war. The cemetery is currently maintained by the Confederate Cemetery Association.

The Jerrerson Davis highway is named after Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederate States of America.

Mission Espada-San Antonio.
Founded in 1690 as San Francisco de los Tejas, this was the first mission in Texas. Originally located near present day Weches, Texas. The mission was relocated to its present location along the San Antonio River and renamed Mission San Francisco de la Espada in 1731. Mission Espada is the southern most mission in San Antonio area.
Boldly sitting in a harsh environment the mission has survived the past 294 years, still a very tranquil setting offering a feeling of security as it reflects its Spanish history.

March 18th, 2025
We also visited the San Juan and San Jose missions.

San Juan and San Jose are both proud missions that have stood the test of time but Espada-San Antonio is more about the people.
Ninety + degrees in this trailer, Carol is comfortable and I am extremely hot. Saturday we leave for cooler weather. Roswell should be in the eighties.
