Chasing Our Dreams, California Dreamin’

The traffic in LA and south is so congested that I miss Baton Rouge. From LA down it was bumper to bumper slow but mostly patient and courteous drivers. We are here Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay (284).
Head for the mountains!

Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay is a great resort. Family oriented and somewhat a party resort.
I checked out repair shops to have work on the truck and an RV dealer to pick up some parts. I scheduled time with a Firestone dealer for tomorrow and headed back to the resort. This is setup and relax day.

May 16th, 2025
Today was truck day, oil and filter, check fluid levels, rotate tires and replace the front brake pads and rotors. Being only a couple miles from the resort, Buddy and I walked back. I picked it up by myself.

Carol and I haven’t told anyone but we have both been sick the last few days. Probably a mild case of the flu but Carol has a cough too.

The dog parks have artifical turf and agility obstacles

They have such nice dog parks. We actually take Buddy to the parks and let him run.

This is what Buddy does when he doesn’t want to go home

I have been coming to California since before pot was legal and back than I could always smell it on the street. Since it has been legalized its disappeared from the street.
Interesting.

Yesterday we ended up at a park on the bay not far from us then we drove out to a beach on the Coronado peninsula to see how rough the ocean was and up to the resort city Coronado. Seems to be a lot to do in Coronado within walking distance of local hotels but it’s a very crowded area. I haven’t been impressed with anything west of the Sierras from Los Angeles south. So far California Dreamin’ has been California Nightmare.
Today we went back to Coronado to run around and do some shopping. We had a great lunch at the “Griddle on the Patio’. That is our griddle on our patio but the other sounds kooler.

Time to pack up, we leave early in the morning to miss the traffic.
About a week ago I received an email from the PCTA about our government wanting to sell public lands without notification. This was my response to our government.
“I was notified by the PCTA that a recent budget amendment in the House would allow public lands in Nevada and Utah to be sold—without public notice, environmental review, or community input.

Local officials have opposed this move, but their concerns were ignored.

This sets a dangerous precedent for how land is managed across our country.
You are taking our voice away in a country that has a government of the people, by the people, for the people. This is a core concept of democracy and was famously used by Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address. This phrase encapsulates the idea that the government should be created, operated, and serve the interests of its citizens.

Several U.S. presidents played key roles in establishing our wilderness and expanding the national park system.
Theodore Roosevelt, Ulysses S. Grant, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter Lyndon B. Johnson.
All wanted to preserve our country.
Don’t destroy their work!

We don’t need more housing or industry, we need our public lands.

The Wilderness Act of 1964, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, was a landmark environmental law that established the National Wilderness Preservation System (NWPS). The act protected over 9 million acres of undeveloped federal land, and set criteria for future wilderness designations.
You may think the title is the“Wilderness Act.” In fact, that is the short title (Section 1.). The complete title is, “An Act to establish a National Wilderness Preservation System for the permanent good of the whole people, and for other purposes.

Our government, you, need to read The Wilderness Act before you destroy our country.

Don’t sell our public lands, protect them.

Quit spending our tax dollars on other countries, spend them on our country, The United States Of America. I know that the citizens of this country are tired of you spending our tax dollars on others, family first. Our taxes should be used to protect and build our country not others. This would give us the funds needed to protect and use our public lands in the manner our past presidents intended.

I told Carol that when she wanted to go back to Indiana that we would. With the problems I had following the medical procedure in January and her missing home, she hasn’t been happy or enjoyed our travels at all, so, we will go see our son in Oregon and head back to Indiana.
I’m not sure if I will continue the blog. I expected a different experience.

Whomever you choose to travel through time with, make sure you are traveling at the same velosity!

Awake at 1:30 in the morning knowing that the alarm is set for 2:15am and wanting to be on the road at 3am to miss all the northbound traffic.
We ended up in traffic but no stopped traffic just a few crazies.
Great ride after LA, beautiful country
Drove part way on the PCH where they have areas to park your RV on the side of the road and spend the day. We arrived at Morro Dunes RV park (332m) at 10:30am but check in is at 12pm. We parked in a lot by the beach and I caught up on my sleep.
We ended with a good site so close to the beach we can hear the waves breaking, very relaxing!
Morro Bay has dog friendly beaches. Very unusual. We’ll enjoy being able to walk Buddy on a beach.

May, 23, 2025
Woke up grumpy this morning and offered to take Buddy out since it was 47° outside and 60° inside, yes we were out of gas. I switched LP tanks and Buddy and I headed for the beach. Buddy is a morning dog, he likes to go, do his thing, explore the area and just sit and check out everything in the area.

He will sit where he can see everything and just watch. He even wanted to chase the gulls, that’s a first. To add to the events of the day, we have gale warnings later today. With us being around eight hundred feet from the shoreline, it could be an interesting day. Not our first! Buddy really likes the beach and was so excited we went back and walked for about an hour. I missed carb day but I didn’t come here for carb day. On the way home we did see some otters in the harbor. It seems to be a nursery forn them.

We took Buddy out for a walk around 6pm this evening and didn’t get back until after 7pm. He is turning into a beach bum.

We did have some wind and rough water.

May 24th, 2025
Buddy and I walked around the RV park until the Gate Keeper unlocked the side gates at 7am so we could go to the beach.
I won’t say the sun is up but it is light out, overcast and foggy and we still have the rough water

The one hundred and ninth Indy 500. This was the coldest race ever which made the race more interesting but still a great race. Alex Palou won the race and after post-race technical inspection, three cars were penalized changing the final finishing order.
Morro Bay is a protected area. It is a National Estuary and a Marine Protected Area. The area is protected on and off shore for the benefit of various sensitive species and critical bird habitat as well as ocean wildlife and the marine ecosystem.
The last couple days we have spent walking the area and enjoying everything it has to offer. This has turned out to be one of our favorite stops. With a dog friendly beach Buddy loves running the area and we get a lot of exercise. We have also walked out and around Morro rock as far as we can. The weather is far from perfect but it works for us.
With the wind and high waves the conditions have been good for local surfers but the water is too cold for swimming.
This is a very popular area.
About 6pm Buddy started acting funny, lethargic, a loss of balance, disoriented, confused. Carol made a video that showed him swaying left and right. We talked about all we’ve done the last couple days and everything he is on and thought it would be best to just watch him. A couple hours later we can’t get him to move, he is no better and reading about some of the possible problems we start looking for a veterinarian in the area. After calling to make sure they were open we left for the vet about 10pm hoping that GPS was right. After about a half hour ride, they were there and waiting for us.
They can’t find anything wrong but from the video Carol made of his actions and our description, the vet thinks he could be stoned. She has seen this before, where the dog finds a roach or even some ashes and cops-a-buzz.
He started acting better after we got there and with the results of the exam, she could be on to something. Buddy was stoned.
Scared us! I thought he might of had a stroke. We did the best we could raising him, teaching him right from wrong, good from bad but with all the outside influences, all you can do is hope for the best. What next, will he steal a ball or pee on a protected plant? I don’t think he enjoyed it, so I hope he’ll be more careful in the future.

Decoration Day was originally used to describe the tradition of decorating the graves of soldiers with flowers and flags after the Civil War. Over time, the holiday evolved to honor all American military personnel who died in service to their country. Memorial Day became more widely used to represent the day and in nineteen hundred and sixty-seven the federal government officially recognized it. Memorial Day  became a national holiday in nineteen hundred and seventy-one when the Uniform Monday Holiday Act passed in nineteen hundred and sixty-eight.

We went to the waterfront on the harbor to do some shopping and see all the boats docked at the piers. The area was crowded but we had a great day.

Morro Bay is home to harbor seals, with anywhere from 20 to 40 individuals residing in the area.

Party Boat

At night, larger ships come in the mouth of the harbor far enough to be sheltered from the weather, then leave in the morning.

Batteries will be the destruction of our planet!

People can’t do anything without a battery. Cars, Boats, golf carts, bicycles, skateboards, what next and how will they be disposed of? Get off your lazy asses!
We made it a short day because of Buddy and had lunch at The Griddle on the Patio, again our griddle on our patio. Great place to eat.

Ocean fog covering the area. Morro rock is fully enclosed.

Time to pack up, we leave in the morning.
With all the laws and regulations we have seen in california and everything I have learned about the state over the years, I have just learned that you need a license and health certificate to bring your dog into the state on vacation. How are people suppose to know this? Who thinks up this crap? This is the United States isn’t it?
Lex Luthor had the right idea but I’ve changed it.
After traveling through California, I really like the East Side of the state and the Sierra mountains, but if the west side of the state were to break off during an earthquake and sink, I don’t think it would be a loss to the world. The only bad thing would be the pollution in the Pacific Ocean from all the electric car batteries and batteries from every other mode of transportation that they think is so great.

Batteries will pollute our world!

We rode the 101 north to a KOA North of San Francisco for the night and we haven’t decided where to go next.
The 101 is a four lane divided highway but wasn’t busy most of the way. We went through San Francisco on Route 1 and back to the 101 to cross the Golden Gate bridge.

May 29th, 2025
Heading north to Oregon, we have found another KOA to stay at. The resort on the coast that we had planned on going to, had new owners and so many restrictions that it reminded me of some of the trashy sites we have stayed at. I believe the new owners were trying to clean it up but we weren’t going to find out.
After we got off of I5, we drove on back country mountainous roads for an one and a half hours to find this place. I am glad we use Garmin for GPS because the navigational apps on a phone wouldn’t workout here. Our phones cut in and out.

The roads were good but they were mountain roads winding up, down and around the mountains. Interesting ride.

Trinity Lake KOA (492m) is another nice KOA, the most isolated we have been. We were made aware of walking Buddy after dark because of the wildlife in the area. Trinity County, CA, is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including black-tailed deer, black bears, gray foxes, cougars, bobcats, coyotes and Roosevelt elk.

This is all the wildlife we have seen excluding the squirrels

I think that will be Carol’s job. After the way Buddy attacked me today I might tie him out tonight with a pork chop around his neck.

He bit me for taking a piece of plastic from him. I should probably use two pork chops. In his defense, it has been stressful around here the last few days and that affects him as much as us.

June 4th, 2025
After being here a few days, this is a great place to fish, hike or just relax. The latter of the three being our first choice. We have been to the marina, the town of Trinity Center, the general store/gas station and the airport. It seems to be a nice community but housing is pricey.

Couldn’t ask for more

The general store wanted twelve dollars for a six pack of beer which is cheaper than death valley but still more than I will pay. Most of the beer sold around here is from small breweries, not what I am use to.
We have enjoyed our walks around the lake and letting Buddy run. The shoreline off the park is a great area for him.
We did have some unexpected company today. Stunned from something he finally recovered and left us.

Western River Cruiser
This is the only known species of the Macromiidae family found in California.

When a spider builds a web from a tree to the trailer, it’s time to move.
Headed north tomorrow.

Waldport/Newport KOA Journey (349m) is our next stop.
